This series consist of annual repors to Congress covering activities undertaken to recover, protect, and preserve archeological sites, collections and data. Since the 1970s, the Departmental Consulting Archeologist in the Department of Interior coordinated information from all Federal agencies with archeological resource stewardship responsibilities. Among the topics covered in the report are the history of federal government archeology, the laws governing its actions, a summary of recent developments and current activities, regarding documenting sites, preserving collections, and the prosecution of theft. The reports contain contributions from a wide variety of federal agencies: The U.S. Forest Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Air Force, Army Corps of Engineers, Department of the Army, Department of the Navy, Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, Coast Guard, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal Aviation Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Tennessee Valley Authority, U.S. Postal Service, Farm Services Agency, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Economic Development Agency, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Energy, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, General Services Administration, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Minerals Management Service, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
